- **Event Description**: Join the School of Art for a Monday Lecture with Monster ChetwyndAbout this EventThe School of Art Monday Lectures is a public series of talks by leading national and international artists and thinkers. The School of Art’s practice-led research embodies and critically reflects upon new registers of contemporary art, whilst rearticulating processes and practices associated with established artistic media. For our first lecture of the new year, we are excited to welcome Monster Chetwynd to ECA.Monster Chetwynd (b.1973, London) lives and works in Zürich. Chetwynd's multifarious practice – spanning interactive performances, film, collage, painting and installation – interweaves elements of folk spectacle, popular culture and surrealistic cinema. Chetwynd is known for her anarchistic performance pieces, featuring handmade costumes, props and sets. Describing her work as ‘impatiently made’, she often re-uses materials that are easy to process to create ambitious costumes and scenery, while incorporating eclectic cultural references – from Mae West to Vionnet. At the core of Chetwynd’s practice is an emphasis on the work’s collective development. This lecture will be hybrid. Please book either an in person or an online ticket for further details.Image details:Sadie Coles HQ, Massimo De Carlo and Gregor StaigerImage credit:Monster Chetwynd, The Trompe l’oeil Cleavage | Installation view Kunsthaus Zürich, 2025 | Photo: Franca Candrian, Kunsthaus Zürich,© Monster ChetwyndAccessPlease let us know if you require any support accessing this event by emailing eca.events@ed.ac.ukPlease see ECA's privacy notice for more information on how your personal details provided will be used and stored.
